You Can Change Any Situation If You Really Want To

Dear friend, you can change any situation in your life that you currently are faced with, if you really want to. It doesn’t matter how testy it is or how long it has existed, if you really want it to change, you can change it. That is a profound statement and that’s the truth. How can we do this? The Bible shows us how.

James chapter 3 verses 3 – 5 is an interesting passage of Scripture. It says, “Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth”.

Here, the Apostle James was writing about the tongue. He called the tongue, “a little member”, but he was actually likening the tongue to some objects he spoke about earlier. First, he spoke of bits of iron that are put in the mouths of horses so “that they may obey us”. With this bit in his mouth, we are able to turn about the horse’s body. Now compare these tiny bits to the size of the horse’s body. Negligible, right? Yes, very negligible, but when they are in place, the horse will obey the rider and go in the direction the rider pleases.

Next, he wrote of the ships on the sea. He described these ships as “so great”, that is, massive in size. Also, these ships are driven by fierce winds. Carefully note the size of the ship and the force behind their movement. Yet these ships are controlled by a tiny rudder. Regardless of the size and the fierce winds driving the ship, the direction the ship goes is determined by a tiny rudder – at the hand of the captain of the ship.

The size of the horse notwithstanding, with the tiny bit of iron in the mouth of the horse, we can bring it under control and direct it wherever we want to go. Same for the ship. The ship may be so big and the winds so fierce, but it will surely go in the direction the captain of the ship turns the rudder. Even so is your tongue! It’s small but it can alter the course of your life!

Your tongue is the rudder and you are the captain of your life. Your life may be in such a big difficulty right now, and may seemingly be driven by very fierce and contrary winds. Perhaps, you seem to be losing grip of your life. It doesn’t matter how terrible the situation is, if you just have a tongue, like that tiny bit of iron in the mouth of the horse, you can bring that situation under control to obey you, you can turn that ship around to safety, you can change that situation. The key to turning any situation around is your tongue.

You can turn any situation in your life around if you really want to. All you need to do is to use your tongue. It starts with your tongue. Your life will go in the direction of your words.

In Mark 5:25-34, we have the account of the woman with the issue of blood. For twelve years she suffered. She visited many doctors, spent all she had in search of healing and health. Instead, she grew worse. Then she heard of Jesus. Someone told her about the love of God. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son Jesus, that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life. And this Jesus, anointed by God, went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him. Jesus saves. Jesus heals. Glory to God.

When she heard of Jesus, she put her tongue to work. She began to say, “If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole” (verse 28). And when she met Jesus and touched his garment, what happened? The Bible says, “And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague… And he (Jesus) said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” (verses 29 and 34). She was made whole! You see, she said it. She got exactly what she said. You too can change any situation in your life, if you really want to!

Begin to say what you want. Set your gaze upon the direction you want your life to go, and turn your tongue in their direction. You may be in such a mess now, but if you begin to say what you want instead of what you are seeing now, in the process of time, things will turn around for you. Stop talking sickness. Talk health. Start saying, “By His stripes, I have been healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Speak health, hold fast to speaking God’s word on healing and health and in the process of time, you will see health manifested in your body. Stop saying you are going to go under. The bible says, “When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up” (Job 22:29). There is a lifting up for me. While others may be going under, I am not going to go under. I am lifted up. I am increasing and abounding on every side. Look, this is not denying the situation. Rather, this is turning the rudder in the direction that you, the captain of your ship, want (James 3:4). Call yourself healed! Call yourself blessed! Call yourself prosperous! Put your tongue to work. Put God’s Word in your lips constantly and that situation will change for good. Praise God!

What You Say Is What You Get

Mark 11:23
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

An important fact of life many of us do not realize is that our words dominate us. Your life will go in the direction of your words. Your words will set the boundaries of your life and either limit or expand the possibilities in your life. Your words will make or break you. The Lord Jesus in Mark 11:23 said, “You will have whatsoever you say”. In essence, what you say is what you get!

You will never rise above the words of your mouth. You will rise or fall according to the words from your lips. You will either be healthy or sick based on what comes out of your mouth. Your words will determine whether you will be poor or rich. Whether you win and be a victor in life or you lose and be a victim is in your mouth. Your mouth will either make you succeed or fail. What you say is what you get! You will have whatever you say!

Hear what the bible says about our words.

Proverbs 6:2
Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, Thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

If you say you won’t make it in life, you surely won’t make it. If you say you are broke or will be broke, poverty will hold you in warm embrace. If you say you can’t do a thing, even the little ability you have in you will take flight. You are snared with the words of your mouth. You are a captive of what comes out of your mouth. Speak words that will work for you. Your words will set the boundaries of your life.

Proverbs 12:14
A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

Proverbs 13:2
A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

The words of your mouth can make life good and easy for you!

Proverbs 13:3
He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

The Bible in James 1:19 admonishes, “let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath”, because he that keeps his mouth keeps his life. Those who speak rashly will come to ruin.

Proverbs 14:3
In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

Proverbs 15:4
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

What is a “wholesome tongue”? The word “wholesome” is the Hebrew word “marpe”, which means “health, healing, cure, medicine, soundness”. We should speak words that bring wholesomeness, health and soundness. Fill your words with love and faith.

Proverbs 18:20
A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

In many instances, when the Bible talks of the belly of a man, it is referring to the spirit of man. Your words will affect your spirit and will ultimately influence the direction of your life. Whatever you say long enough will register on your spirit and will affect your life.

Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Success and failure, health and sickness, prosperity and lack are in your tongue. What you say is what you will get. You will eat the fruit of what you say!

Matthew 12:36, 37
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

In the natural, whenever the law enforcement officers come to apprehend a suspect, they often say, “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will and can be used against you in a court of law”, so it is here in Matthew 12:37. Jesus said, “by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned”. Your words can set you free, your words can put you in bondage. That’s word Jesus said, and His Word is true!

So whatever you want to see or be in life, start speaking in that direction. Speak health, speak wealth, speak God’s Word. Fill your mouth with God’s Word no matter the situation. Remember that our words dominate us, so use words that will put you over in life!
